On being a human being today

Everything goes around death. Our capacity of being surprised is so diminished the only way of getting our attention is to use all those concepts that are so tabooed or respected by the society we live in. Death is something so sacred that for aeons it has been subject of questions and respect. Nowadays it is only another resource, along with eroticism and violence, of developing communication and narrative plots. What used to be the notion of love and magical chemistry between two people is now confused with sex and the same happens when confusing passion with violence.

What really worries me is that we are being so precise in our conclusions and perceptions that all we have to offer to the young minds is that: the raw truth. No more stories, white lies or fantastic facades to slow down the sour walk to reality. I have never supported extreme ideals, and it usually is clear that truth is the only way, but I am sure there is also a gray zone in this subject, as there is in so many situations.

We obviously, as human beings, need to keep on growing, evolving. We need to learn and create, we sometimes have the urge of destruction, but our nature pushes us towards everything unconquered, everything unknown. And as the unknown, or unexplainable, being the opposite of the goal we seek, we try to avoid it, to clear it and categorize it as explainable. So, when faced with the fact that the young, the unexperienced, have also the urge to learn, we repel that which we see as a threat to complete our goal: we don’t tell lies, and instead, we tell the truth, without sugar or mythical animals, lacking the previous magic of super powers or impossible events.

Yes, now we know much more. We can fly to the stars and see the smallest particles. We can explain time, space and physic laws. We shine when it comes down to solving problems, to finding solutions. It all is great, we have a better life, a longer and cleaner life. I myself enjoy it very much, I obviously benefit from this way of things. All I’m wondering is if the exchange is as fair as it seemed before.
